About Physics Department
The department started its activity at undergraduate level in and there is no looking back since then. The post graduate (P.G.) Department of Physics began functioning from the year 1969 with commencement of M.Sc. (Physics) course specialization in electronics. The department is well equipped with necessary facilities and resources for teaching, experiments, higher learning and research. The department also has a full fledged PG Departmental Library well stocked with standard books and journals.
Vision and Mission of the Department are:
- Sharing of knowledge in Physics within the University syllabus U.G. and P.G. courses through conventional teaching and learning processes coupled with modern and innovative teaching practices.
- Advancement of knowledge in Physics and application in social processes and also inspire our students to contribute something special for humanity and hence to serve the Nation.
- Steps for creating intellectual excitement and joyful friendship of the students with the subject to know more about it.
- Achieving the goal of excellence in all our works through theoretical and experimental exercises.
- Encouragement of the students for making their bright future in Physics.
The department has involved in active experimental work on preparation and characterization through electrical conductivity, dielectric, thermoelectric, XRD, EPR, molecular spectroscopic investigations of alkali halide, Tutton salt single crystals and some polycrystalline materials, Ultrasonic characterization of advanced materials and smart fluids at different physical conditions, the work on some metallopolymer nanocomposites, Study of Sun in the field of Astrophysics. Current research of Dr. Shripal lies in the development of Vedanta Science and he is keen to provide common platform to Scientists and Spiritual community of both scientific and Vedanta knowledge.
The departmental research activity was started as early as in 1973. The faculty of department completed ten major projects successfully funded by CSIR, UGC, DST and CST-UP. Out of these, five projects were done by Dr S D Pandey. One more project was also’ completed by Dr S D Pandey in association with Dr. Shripal but was completed by Dr. Shripal. Along with these major projects 5 minor projects were also completed independently by Dr J Prasad, Dr B Pandey, Dr (Mrs.) Arora, Dr Satish Chandra. The level of research can be judged by Ph.D. thesis examiners Padam Bhushan Prof. S.K. Joshi, DG, CSIR, New Delhi and Bharat Ratna Prof. CNR Rao. Dr. Shriram Shukla, who was retired as Joint Director DRDO, Delhi was done his Ph.D. from the department after qualifying his CSIR-JRF examination.
Dr. S.D. Pandey supervised 17 candidates for Ph.D. degree. Dr. A.K. Chaudhary 01, Dr. J. Prasad 01, Dr. S.K. Gupta 01 and Dr. Shripal 09, Dr. Satish Chandra 02, and Dr. D.K. Pandey 03 candidates. About 150 research papers are published by the faculty of the department. We also collaborated with the eminent scientists in research work. Dr. S.D. Pandey & Dr. Shripal collaborated with Prof. R.P. Tandon, Ex. Head, Department of Physics Delhi University & Ex. Scientific Advisor, Haryana Government, Dr. Shripal with Prof. J. Kumar of ACMS (Now MSP), & Dr. Prem Chand, Physics Department, IIT Kanpur.
The faculty is also very active in extension programmes, in reaching out to students and community, through popular articles in the local press, radio, internet, popular as well as technical books in Hindi and English. The faculty attends Refresher Courses, Summer Programmes and Teacher Training Programmes and also encourages postgraduate students to participate in conferences and workshops. The audio visual aids are in use for teaching and demonstration of experiments in the laboratory as well. The Department curates websites to provide lecture notes, lab manuals and other resource materials to the students of the department. During the pandemic period successful online teaching has run by the Department for theory and lab classes both. In addition, Dr. Shripal & Dr. Satish Chandra created online platforms in the form of You-tube channels that were widely used by the students for their effective study .
