BOTANY

The Department of Botany was established in 1966 an undergraduate having single faculty member. The Post Graduate course was started in the year 1979 after obtaining approval from Kanpur University. At present the department has 8 sanctioned post of teachers and is currently run by 3 permanent teachers and 03 guest lecturers.

Since its inception the department has aimed to impart knowledge about various fields of Botany in various ways through different methods including experiential learning, field visits, study tour, doing experiments in the laboratory and many others. Learning about plants becomes interesting through observation and doing experiments. For this purpose the department has spacious laboratories for undergraduate and post graduate students separately. The laboratories are equipped with well advanced equipment and other facilities. The department utilizes modern teaching aids as computer, projector and other electronic gadgets to keep the students interestingly engaged. The other teaching aids such as charts, models, permanent and temporary slides are displayed during theory practical as well as theory sessions.

To cope up with the current requirement of modified syllabus as per NEP 2020, the department under the guidance of Mrs. Alka Rani is continuously putting up efforts to understand plant sciences in the best possible way. The students are encouraged to actively participate in the activities such as quizzes, presentation, studying plants in nature, various competitions etc.  to nurture and satisfy their curiosity about the subjects.

The department is equipped with a library for post-graduate students. The library has more than 500 books of proclaimed authors and various esteemed journals which are utilized by P.G. students to assist their knowledge gaining process.  The department is also adorned with a botanical garden which aims to serve the purpose of learning for students.  It contains various medicinal plants, spices, ornamental plants and plants having taxonomic importance.

Besides, various activities such as guest lecture, plant exchange, presentation by students, active participation by the students in the botanical garden, competitions for students are organized by the department for knowledge enhancement.
