About Sanskrit Department

Department of Sanskrit was established in 1959. Currently, the HOD of Sanskrit Department is Dr.Meena Gupta (M.A., B.Ed, NET JRF-SRF, Ph.D.) who joined the Department in the year 2001.She has participated in several seminars and conferences, published research papers and book chapters and is an active member in professional societies. Every year several events such as inter college quizes, sanskrit speaking course in collaboration with Sanskrit Bharti, Iyear informal speaking course in collaboration with Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan (deemed university), shlokh path, suktilekhan are conducted by the department of Sanskrit for overall academic and social development of students.

The Department of Sanskrit is well-versed with all the books and data required by the students to complete their degrees. Additionally, the department conducts various competitions and seminars In addition to that, Sanskrit-speaking camps, essay writing, poster exhibition and verse reading competitions were also organized by the department. Students also participated in quiz competition at Sen College and received certificates and medals, In the essay writing and song competition organized at Juhari Devi PG College. In the last session, poetry recitation and proverb writing competition was also organized by the department and prizes were distributed to the winners. The Head of the Department was invited and honoured at various colleges including Sen Mahavidyalaya, Jwala Devi, D.G. for a decisive and special lecture in the colleges and in the lecture camp at Saraswati VidyaMandir.

In the session (2017-18) also, a ten-day lecture camp was organized for the students to learn Sanskrit in the month of August, in which teaching work was done by Jagruti Pandey and also the operation of the informal Sanskrit teaching sub-centre from September to May and another camp in (2019-20) by Prakash Jha, the state head of Sanskrit Bharti. Prakashji made the students aware to use Sanskrit in a colloquial form in a very simple way. He also told that there are 102 billion 78 crore 50 lakh words in Sanskrit and a person can create words by learning its grammar. It is being conducted by the head of the department, in which students related to any other subject of the college can get an education. Capacity has to be increased so that they can become familiar with the knowledge and science contained in Sanskrit and can also get practical knowledge of Sanskrit as a scientific language in the world.

The department has the idea of conducting a yoga workshop in Sanskrit and also a workshop on Chand recitation with the help of Sanskrit Sansthan is proposed. In the year 2018, an informal Sanskrit teaching centre was run in the department, in which 29 students participated and obtained certificates. This scheme was affiliated to the National Sanskrit Institute, New Delhi and it was a type of certificate course, in which college students can study any subject.

In the session 2019-20, many programs were organized in the Sanskrit Department for the all- round development of the students. Knowledge of Sanskrit is very necessary for the establishment of moral values like Indian culture, ethics, behavior etc. NASA has 60000 manuscripts written on letters on which NASA is doing research. In July 1987, Forbes magazine considered Sanskrit as the best for computer software. There is a demand for a large number of Sanskrit speakers in Germany. Sanskrit is taught in 14 German universities. When NASA scientists used to send messages to space travelers, their sentences were reversed, due to which the meaning of their message used to change. Finally, they sent messages in Sanskrit because Sanskrit sentences do not change their meaning. Thus, the Department of Sanskrit is constantly striving for the all-around development of the students.
