The Department of Mathematics is one of the prestigious and renowned departments of the college. The department has a glorious past and its glory is still maintained gorgeously. It has been providing a healthy and friendly teaching atmosphere with great discipline and runs regular classes along-with research activities since the inception of the department way back in 1963. The department offers both UG and PG courses in Mathematics with a full-fledged PG Departmental Library comprising of standard books and journals. 

Vision and Mission of the department are-

• To impart foundation knowledge to the students to understand the basics of mathematics, including applied aspects for developing enhanced quantitative skills and pursuing higher mathematics and research as well.
• Advancement of knowledge in pure and applied mathematics and its applications in real life.
• Python is a powerful programming language that is widely used in the scientific community for mathematics and computation. The department also aims to motivate and make the students learn the basics as well as advanced programming of open-source software’s such as Python, SCILAB, etc. to keep them updated and ready for new job opportunities.
• With the project-work in PG, the students get familiar with the research skills and develop a better scientific temperament in them.
• To develop a solution-oriented approach towards various issues related to their environment through different tools used in Mathematical Modelling.  
• Being an affiliated body of the CSJM university, the department follows the curriculum of the affiliating university and at the same time the department aims to inculcate the necessary knowledge beyond the curriculum through the innovative teaching processes.    
• Encouraging the students to excel in their respective fields and to make a bright future in Mathematical Sciences.

Following the vision and mission of the department, we have produced a number of students who have established themselves in various career streams like teaching, high-quality research work, DRDO scientists, civil services, bank probationary officers, etc. Several students have cleared JRF / NET, JAM for IITs and many other students have done well in different competitive exams during the past few years. At present there are five research scholars pursuing research from the department. Recently, our alumni Dr Ashish Omar is appointed as an assistant professor in the Mathematics Department of Christ Church College, Kanpur in July 2023. In 2023, 6 students have cleared JAM (Mathematics) including Rishabh Shukla (AIR-98) and Himanshu Singh (AIR-562). Prachi Gupta cleared JRF and GATE (AIR-767) in 2022, Aniruddha Kumar Sharma also qualified for JRF and GATE in 2021. Pawan Kumar Yadav qualified NET in 2022 and 2023 and Furkan Ahmad qualified GATE in 2022. Our alumni, Dr Ashish Shukla, Dr Amit Gupta, Dr Anil Kumar are working as assistant professors in Mathematics after being selected by the Higher Education Service Commission.    

At present, there are five faculty members in the department, with expertise in various areas of Mathematics, Statistics, Numerical computing through MATLAB and SCILAB. All the five faculty members have doctoral degree. Dr Shikha Singh, the senior most member of the department has joined V.M.L.G. College, Ghaziabad as Principal appointed by the UPHESC, Allahabad. Currently, the department is being led by Dr Maninder Singh Arora.

Prof. Shikha Singh has participated actively in various national and international seminars and conferences. Three PhD students have been awarded the doctorate and one student is pursuing research from CSJM University Kanpur under her supervision. She has published 35 research papers in various reputed national/international Journals and 02 books. 20 papers are presented in national/international conferences and also delivered eight lectures as invited talks in national and international conferences. Dr Shikha Singh also chaired a session in the 6th China India Japan Korea international conference on Mathematical Biology held at IIT Kanpur during 23rd to 26th of August, 2017. She has been elected as Treasurer of Indian society for Mathematical Modelling and Computer Simulation, IIT Kanpur.

Dr. Maninder Singh Arora has participated in various national and international seminars and conferences. At present four research scholars are pursuing research under his supervision from CSJMU. His areas of research include differential geometry of the Finsler spaces and Mathematical modelling. He has 14 research papers in national / international journals to his credit and has presented research papers in 10 national/ international conferences. He has also delivered invited talks /lectures in international seminars and has been guiding research scholars at pre-Ph.D. course work of CSJM University, Kanpur. He has been a member of various important committees of the college including admission committee, IQAC, Scholarship Committee, Proctorial Board, Tender and purchase committee, Examination committee, etc. Earlier, he has also contributed as head Examiner, UFM examiner and Challenge evaluator in the University evaluation process. He has also been a member of interview panel as a subject expert in the U.P. Madhyamik Shiksha Sewa Chayan Board (UPSESSB).

Dr. Sunil Kumar has been a member of various committees of the college such as B.Sc. admission committee, Mukhya Mantri Kanya Sumangla Yojna Scholarship, etc. His research areas are Hydrodynamics and Magneto Hydrodynamic Turbulence. He has published 12 research papers in national / international journals. He has also contributed as Examiner in the University evaluation process.

Dr. Kirti Chauhan is member of proctorial board, AS Exam, Admission Committee. Her research area is Analysis. She has got 5 research papers published in national / international journals and presented research papers in 3 national / international conferences. She has also contributed as Examiner in CSJM University and also in evaluation and challenge evaluation committees.

Dr. Tarannum Siddiqi has also been member of some very important committees such as scholarship committee, admission committee of B.Sc. II (Maths group), etc. Her research area is special function and she carried out her research work in dept. of Mathematics, H.B.T.U., Kanpur. She has five papers published in various national / international journals, one paper presented on a national seminar. She has also written a text book for B.Sc. 1st “Text book of integral Calculus” in 2014 as a co-author.
