The Department of Zoology was founded in the year 1966 with a two year undergraduate program that was upgraded to a three year program in 1990. In 1998, the Department became a full-fledged PG Department with its specialization in Environmental Studies. Zoology is one of the most fascinating and interesting subjects in the field of Biology as it involves the study of animals including wildlife and their behaviour. Since the very beginning the Department has always aimed at teaching and mentoring the students seriously. Not only do the teachers work closely with the students in the classroom and laboratories but also take them for field study, study trips and excursions to inculcate in them the values of team spirit and increase an understanding of the natural world. A lot of effort is also put in to raise awareness among the students with regards to our degrading environment. The Department has its own library with around 600 standard books and a small reading room which caters to the need of PG students and Teachers. It has 03 well equipped laboratories. Our B.Sc. lab is one of the largest in the state and equipped with ICT facilities. Besides these there is a rich museum that has a huge collection of specimens in the form of animals, skeletons and models and an Animal House for the purpose of storage. Departmental teaching comprises of the new innovative methods using teaching learning software for both theory as well as practical classes. Student seminars, debates and group discussions are held regularly on topics of environmental concern & wild life conservation.

The Department has very well educated & committed faculties who leave no stone unturned to provide them with the best of their knowledge and satisfy them. At present the teaching faculty comprises of Mr. B. B. Biswas, Dr. Renu Goel, Dr. S.P. Srivastava, Dr. Shailendra Pratap Singh Dr. Neeraj Verma, Dr. Sandhya Pandey, Dr. Divya Mishra & Mr. Ritikesh Rai. The non-teaching members of the Department viz. Mr. Shashi Bhushan Singh, Ms. Savitri Devi, Ms. Anoopa & Mr. Dheeraj are also greatly dedicated in their work and are responsible for the total upkeep of the classrooms, laboratories & the museum. Together the dedicated team is responsible for the great appreciation, the Department has earned for its teaching standards, sincerity, cleanliness & hard work not only within the college and the university but also elsewhere where our students reach. In the last few years many of our students have placed at various faculty positions, earned prestigious awards and qualified esteemed exams like GATE, NET, JRF (UGC, CSIR, ICMR) which is a reflection of the constant guidance & mentoring of students by the teachers. Student seminars are held regularly in the Department where students of M.Sc.(F) deliver power point presentations on topics related to Global environment, its existing concerns, awareness and solutions. Student trips are organized for graduate and post graduate students. The Department is enriched with various new equipments including Spectrophotometer, Electrophoresis unit, Centrifuge machine, etc and standard books of Indian and Foreign authors. A Bulletin board has been set up in the Departmental premise which displays variety of information and interesting facts about animal kingdom weekly. This is being done with a view of creating an intellectual excitement towards the subject.

The faculty members are actively involved in research activities despite of indulging in regular teaching. Currently one research project is running under Dr. S. P. Srivastava sanctioned by Higher Education Research & Development, Prayagraj. More than 15 research papers have been published by the faculty members in last 5 years. Faculty also participates in Faculty development programs including orientation programs, refresher courses, and workshops and various national and international conferences, seminars and symposia. The faculty members also encourage the students to actively participate in the conferences and workshops.
