PPN College Library has been an integral part of the academic landscape of Kanpur since its establishment in 1959. With a rich history spanning over six decades, our library has evolved into a vibrant source of intellectual growth, offering a wide range of study resources and services to students, faculty, and researchers. We take great pride in our legacy and continue to uphold our commitment to provide a suitable environment for learning, research, and exploration of new visitors.

In its early days, the library occupied a small room with a limited number of bookshelves and a modest collection of books. Dr. S. K. D. Tripathi, the first librarian, and Mr. U. C. Srivastava, the library clerk, laid the foundation for the library’s growth by nurturing its initial state.

Over the years, the library steadily expanded its collection by the remarkable efforts of its librarians and staff, notably, Mr. J. A. Zaidi, who made significant contributions to the development and enrichment of the library. His dedication and passion transformed the library into an “argosy” of knowledge, boasting an impressive collection of 75,000 books on various subjects.

With the advent of technology, the PPN College Library embraced computerization in 1998. Through customise software; the library began the process of digitizing its data, cataloguing, and managing the extensive collection. This modernization initiative streamlined library operations and improved accessibility for users.

Throughout its journey, the Library has remained committed to provide the best resources and facilities to its users. The library’s management is overseen by a committee comprising Prof. Anoop Kumar Singh (Principal), Prof. A. K. Gupta (Convener), and the department library in-charges of PG departments. Their collective expertise ensures that the library functions seamlessly and continues to meet the evolving needs of its users.

The Library is not only a repository of books but also a provider of comprehensive services to support the academic journey of our users. Our dedicated and experienced library staff, led by Dr. D. K. Saxena, Librarian, and Mr. Satyendra Shankar Shukla, Cataloguer, are always ready to assist and guide users in their information-seeking endeavours.

The PPN College Library has continuously strived to keep pace with the changing educational landscape and technological advancements. With the advent of the internet, the library recognized the transformative power of digital resources and embraced them to expand its offerings.

The library was an early adopter of broadband internet connectivity in 2005, providing students, staff, and teachers with high-speed internet access. In partnership with the government’s National Mission of Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT) scheme, the library expanded broadband connectivity throughout the college, enabling access to a wealth of digital resources. This move ensured that the entire college community could leverage the power of online databases, e-books, and academic materials.

In recent years, the PPN College Library has further enhanced its digital infrastructure. The implementation of an e-library has enabled students and teachers to access scholastic materials from renowned academic vendors and libraries. This digital repository has opened up new avenues for research, collaboration, and self-paced learning.

The library has subscription of N-List through INFLIBNET, project of UGC. It provides students, teachers and research scholars access to more than one lakh books and more than ten thousand journals available in online mode.

Additionally, the library has introduced an Open Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) system. This user-friendly web-based interface enables users to search for books, check their availability, and determine their physical location within the library or departmental libraries. The OPAC system has revolutionized the way users interact with the library’s resources, providing a seamless and efficient experience.

The PPN College Library recognizes that a library is not merely a repository of books but a custodian of knowledge and a testament to the intellectual heritage of society. We understand the importance of preserving and maintaining our historical legacy. To ensure the longevity of our collection and the preservation of valuable resources, the library has implemented robust preservation measures.
