Study Tour
Session 2023-24
Study Visit of B.Sc. III yr students to Sopan Ashram, Naramau, Kanpur (A NGO unit of Shiksha-Sopan supervised by Padma Shree Prof. Harish Chandra Verma, Emirates Professor, IIT, Kanpur) on March 02, 2024.
Session 2018-19
The department of Physics conducted a study tour of M. Sc. Final students to Mount Abu under the supervision of Dr. Satish Chandra from 10th to 15th February 2019. The students visited the Mount Abu Infrared Observatory situated at Guru Shikhar the highest peak of the Aravalli ranges which is 1722 m above mean sea level. The students met the research scholars of Physical research laboratory under the leadership of scientist-E Prof. Som Kumar Sharma who exhibited the telescope, back end instruments and the control room of infrared and optical telescope which is of 1,25 m diameter. The team also witnessed the instrument PARAM which paved the path in search of India’s maiden discovery of exoplanet K2-236 B recently.
The team also visited the optical aeronomy laboratory where Prof. Som Kumar Sharma and his team explained the working of LIDAR (Light Detection And Ranging), which is India’s first active remote sensing Laser operated system which can study the vertical atmospheric profile viz. density, pressure, temperature, Ozone, Sodium and Aerosol up to 90 km height at Guru Shikhar. The students also saw the construction of Asia’s biggest telescope of 2.25 m diameter, optical telescope of 1 m diameter and new optical aeronomy laboratory including the dome for all sky camera. This study trip has motivated and inspired the students towards India’s landmark research in space science.
