Awareness Programme, Speech Competition and A Special Lecture September 16, 2025
An Awareness Programme on World Environment Day
organized by
Department of Botany
The Department of Botany organized a special programme to commemorate World Ozone Day 2025 on 16th September 2025. The event was coordinated under the convenership of Dr. Alka Rani and was designed to raise awareness about the importance of protecting the ozone layer and to encourage collective action towards addressing climate change. It featured two engaging sessions: a Speech Competition and a Special Lecture.
Session I: Speech Competition
The first session was a Speech Competition on the theme “From Awareness to Action: Saving the Ozone Together.” A total of 25 participants from the college actively presented their views on ozone depletion, its consequences, and the urgent need for sustainable solutions. The competition not only showcased the students’ knowledge and communication skills but also emphasized their sense of responsibility towards environmental conservation.
The competition was adjudicated by a distinguished panel of judges including Dr. B. B. Biswas, Mr. Anil Kumar Singh and Dr. Yashveer Gautam. Their valuable evaluation and encouragement further motivated the participants to pursue environmental awareness and action.
Session II: Special Lecture
The second session was a Special Lecture delivered by Dr. Maninder Singh Arora, Associate Professor, Department of Mathematics, on the topic “Awareness to Action: A Mathematical Modelling for Ozone and Climate Change.”
Dr. Arora’s lecture provided a comprehensive overview of the fundamental concepts and history of ozone-related conventions and treaties, such as the Montreal Protocol. He also shared insights from his research on climate change using mathematical modelling, offering the audience a deeper scientific understanding of how ozone layer protection is interconnected with climate systems. The session was highly appreciated by both students and faculty members for its clarity, relevance, and thought-provoking content.
Conclusion
The World Ozone Day 2025 Awareness Programme was a successful and impactful initiative. The speech competition fostered student participation and awareness, while the special lecture enriched the audience with scientific perspectives and practical approaches to ozone protection and climate action.
The Department of Botany expresses its heartfelt gratitude to Prof. Anoop Kumar Singh, Principal, for his continuous support and encouragement in organizing such awareness-oriented programmes. The event concluded with a strong message: moving from awareness to action is essential to safeguard the ozone layer and secure a sustainable future.
